The problem at the gate

Every vehicle in, every vehicle out, every visitor, every incident. On most sites that is still hand-written, transcribed by someone in an office, and delivered to the operator days later. By then it proves nothing.

GateTracker was built for a Texas armed security company running gate guards on oil field and ranch leases, and it has been in production since 2014. Robles Industries owns the platform today and licenses it directly to energy operators.

Four views, one record

  • Licensee dashboard. The security company's operating center: guards, gates, customers, vendors, shift rules, report recipients. The licensee sets its own logo and colors and the system pushes that branding to the guard tablets.
  • Customer dashboard. The site operator's live view. Many leave it up on a dedicated screen all day.
  • Landowner dashboard. Oversight without operational controls.
  • Guard application on Android tablet and web, where the data is born.

The mechanics customers actually buy

  • Offline capture with reconciliation. The tablet keeps taking entries, exits and incident reports with no connection and syncs when one returns. Permian and South Texas gates do not have reliable service.
  • Cached rapid entry. A returning driver's plate, name and vendor auto-fill, so the line at the gate does not back up.
  • Ban lists, including a silent ban that alerts the operator without telling the guard at the gate.
  • Incident reports with a review chain. The guard files it, the security company edits or approves it, and only then does it reach the client.
  • Geofenced time and attendance. A guard can only clock in inside the gate's radius, and stepping outside it clocks them out. Weekly hours are digitally signed and emailed as a PDF to whoever is configured to receive it.

How it is built

Django REST API in Python, Angular front end in TypeScript, native Android in Kotlin. About 2,237 commits on the API, 1,151 on the web client and 396 on Android between March 2022 and August 2026. Hosting, SSL storage, retention of transactions, messages and images for up to a year, and quarterly backups on request sit inside the subscription.

How we run a cutover

For the most recent licensee we negotiated the license directly: a hosted-software agreement rather than a goods-purchase template, the platform staying ours, and a liability and insurance position both sides could live with.

Then the cutover: gates and geofences created, destinations bulk-imported from the customer's own well list, 609 ban records migrated, report recipients set per report type, a live test transaction pushed through a real gate before handover, and ten tablets in guards' hands for a midnight go-live.

What we can start on

A pilot at one gate or one site, with your own branding on the guard tablets. A white-label deployment if you are the security contractor. Or an assessment of the access system you already run.
